Dell Technologies
Sales & Partner Program
From 2019 to 2022 I led the product design side of the Dell Technologies Sales & Partner Portal. This site is the digital resource hub that houses every document, presentation, pitch deck, spec sheet, training video, contract template, etc. that any person selling Dell Technologies’ portfolio would possibly need to leverage when making a sale.
And some of these sales are in the $1b+ range. So it needs to be good.
Practicing an agile methodology, we ran quarterly surveys to invite feedback on our site and ask our 30,000 monthly users — comprised of both Dell internal salespeople and employees of external partner companies — what we can do to make their experience on the site as seamless as possible. When you throw in some legal concerns and the fact that we support a global user base with multiple levels of entitlement, and oh yeah, multiple translations of everything, it gets… complicated. But hey, that’s a global tech company for ya.

These events are critical to keeping the consumer base aware of all the tech Dell has to offer, from products to solutions to services.
So when the calendar struck 2020 and those industry events… well, stopped… we had to immediately pivot to a digital way to get the information out to our user base of salespeople. The live events themselves, and registration, etc., are handled by the local organizer, using the best tech platform available to them in whichever region/market they happen to be, but we had to be able to have a directory of all these available events, and for them to be searchable on our site. They are also now promoted on the homepage, and across our product-specific pages, take a look -
Filetype Icon Refresh
When I began working on the Sales Portal, the primary visual indicator signified the ‘asset category’ for that particular file. While the icon makes sense after reading the text it signifies, we were receiving feedback that we could do more to help our users easily scan and differentiate between the thousands of assets on our site. So I looked around for a few ways it was being handled by others, and somewhat predictably found that there was no magic bullet, and it came down to a compromise between text, iconography, & color -
And the winner is…
